2007 Design Problem
A university is building a new dormitory, and student rooms will need an attractive, durable light fixture that will deliver light levels for studying as well as general living needs. The room size is 12’ x 15’ and houses two students in flexible furniture arrangements. The ceiling height is 9’. A recessed junction box will be provided in the concrete ceiling for this fixture. In addition to the above requirements, consider the issues of sustainability (materials, energy) light distribution (where does the light fall and its effectiveness), ease of maintenance and overall cost. Your fixture should use energy-efficient, high efficiency sources, such as compact fluorescent, or other sources with excellent color rendering, long life and instant on. The ballast should be integral to the fixture. Self-ballasted lamps and other retrofit lamps are not acceptable. Identify all major components and materials.
